(A)  In General.  In preparation for the entry of the plea, the investigation of the case as a whole should be conducted as described in Chapter 3, supra.  In addition, certain additional investigation is required to focus specifically on the plea negotiations.  See § 8.3, infra.  In addition, legal research is also required on topics relevant to the plea negotiations.  See § 8.4, infra.  Finally, close consultation is required with the client, as the final decision on whether to accept a plea bargain falls to the client, with the advice of counsel.  See § 8.5, infra.
