Through this type of cooperation, with each counsel taking as much responsibility as possible for avoiding immigration effects triggered by some portion of the client’s criminal history, it is often possible to remove all immigration effects of a client’s criminal history.

Obviously, it is essential for post-conviction counsel and immigration counsel to agree on a common strategy from the beginning, to ensure that each can accomplish their part of the work the strategy requires, and that both the post-conviction and immigration parts of the strategy are realistic.
